Frame Info please
« on: January 13, 2008, 12:11:48 AM »
I got a '77 Chevy Blazer and it needs a frame. I need to know which years the frame was interchangeable.

73-91 will work. The only difference I know of is the 81-91 bumper brackets are different.

Actually for K5's the frames changed when they extended the passenger floor in 1978 and the body mounts were moved outside the frame.  So it would be 78-91, but the 81-91 frames are lighter versions and they have the angled frame horn for the new bumper.

Chris,

The 81-91 frames have angled frame horns?  Is that the reason my 86 looks like the drivers side horn is "bent" towards the outside?  The dimension is correct - I thought the truck was in an accident.

I knew you did, I figured you were speaking in general.  I was just giving specifics.

Jeff,
The front portion of the frame horn is cut off at an angle as opposed to rounded off on the 73-80.

Here is a 73 frame marked for cutting to get a 81-87(91) bumper bracket mounted.

Hey Captkaos, what did you mean by the body mounts were moved outside the frame. I've never seen body mounts any where else on any car. My '77 has the body mounts on outside of the frame
