Please help! tranny question

(1/2) > >>

mossgold:
I have a 76 1/2 ton with a 350 mated to a th350tranny.  My question regards a transmission problem.  I have owned the truck for 2 years now and have never experienced ANY transmisson problems.  Tonight I was driving home and the transmisson seemed to have slipped out of gear several times and/or downshifted itself at unappropriate times.  I gunned the truck several times tonight because of a probably unrelated rough idle, although I usually drive the truck extremely easily.  If anyone could give me a suggestion to what my problem might be, I would really appreciate it.

PHOENIX:
Are you sure that the transmission has the proper fluid level?

ChevyGuy:
Check your vacuum lines and your linkage for the transmission.

mossgold:
Yeah, I had checked the fluid level and it is full, but possibly time for a change.  I also checked the vaccuum going to the modulator and it had plenty of vacuum.  The linkage is okay as well.

i have an 82 silverado with a turbo 350 tranny ..and one day it started to slip ..and gradually got worse i changed the fluid several times and then fianlly out one night i got on it a little bit and the slipping was very bad afterwards...then on the interstate coming home it slipped totally and would not ingage in any forward gears ( fried). after that i fliped the $550 for a new turbo 350 and a new torque converter, now it runs great with alot more power ...i was tired of having ongoing problems with transmissions...the best bet to ensure that you have no more problems would be go ahead and spend the money for a new one .if your like me and like to  race and get on it on the weekends..10 year old or older trannies just wont cut it..
good luck
i hope i was some help..
