Jetting Question / Dyno Numbers
« on: February 17, 2003, 10:20:00 AM »
I am trying to jet my Edelbrock 1904 Q-jet on my truck.  I took my truck to the dyno shop and ran it - mostly because they can tell you if you are lean or rich and where.

I pulled 149.9 HP at around 4100 RPM and 249.9 FT LBS at around 3100 RPM.  Measured at the rear wheels.

For reference, the engine is a stock 305 with 105,000 miles on it, Flowmaster exhaust system, Pro Form HEI distibutor set at 6 degrees BTDC, Edelbrock 1904 Carb, and a modified air cleaner box with a K&N element. I am also at 4,400 FT elevation.

The Air/Fuel readings were rich throughout the RPM curve. I adjusted the idle mixture screws to 14.7 while still hooked to the sensor.  It ran the richest at part throttle, just of idle in the low 12's. At wide open throttle, it was in the high 13's which is probably OK.

I want to know if I should try a smaller main on the primary side or a little fatter primary rod.  The guy at the shop suggested a fatter rod, but I am thinking a smaller main might work better.

What do you guys think?

try the rod first since its probably easier to change.
