my name is zach, i have an all original 79 chevy. only thing that ive done to it was put a later model motor with serpentine belt, 700r4, suspension and the 20/22in wheels and tires.

oh heck yea!  welcome aboard man!  you have the same color i do...well, on the top and bottom.  you don't see that color much.  what part of Texas are ya in?  that truck looks REALLY clean...i got mine from the 2nd owner and it only had 71k on it when i got it...now it has 77k...and no reverse or OD...don't ya love those early 700R4's?  it's getting a new tranny and new motor after xmas.  anyhow, post more pics of your truck!!

im up in weatherford texas, the trans is ok, its out of a late 80's burb. im getting really upset with the way it runs. everytime i put my foot into it it wants to die or hesitate. it has a holley 650,performer intake, small cam and headers, i dont know wat to do, my other c10 never did this.

have you set the engine timing/carb with a vac gauge?  that will get it as close to perfect as possible...might need to rejet your carb as well...

ive timed it by ear and i have it set perfect, im really thinking its the carb or the HEI. Here are a few more pics, there of my other trucks...

was originally an F250, but i installed a HP D60 and lifted it with a 1-ton kit...so it's an F350

4" Banks Monster Exhaust with NO cat

dyno'd at 308.8 RWHP and 620.1 RWTQ

now i'm gonna ruin what sounds like an awesome truck by saying this was the biggest pile of horse manure i ever laid my hands on.  everytime i started it something else broke...here's a partial list of what i replaced over my last 6 months of owning it...

1. transmission (new owner reported that that one broke in half too...yes, in HALF)
2. starter
3. clutch (started slipping right after the 1000 mile break in..first time i got on it...yes, i resurfaced the 4.flywheel, and i didn't have an oil leak...the pressure plate wasn't keeping proper pressure on it...South Bend wouldn't warranty it because i had installed it myself...screw them)
5.rebuilt front axle (redid bearings 4 times and installed locking hubs twice...kept eating bearings...don't know why...i've done bearings many times in my life...know i did it right...second time on i used a torque wrench to ENSURE proper preload and used an actual bearing packer just to make sure i was doing it right...something was wrong on that truck...rotor and spindle was replaced...explain THAT one)
6. transfer case (front u-joint gave off road and the driveshaft put a hole in it)
7. rebuilt rear axle (pinion bearing gave out, left me stranded again...to be towed again by my friend's '01 Ram 2500 4x4 with CTD...a REAL truck...didn't even take it out of 5th gear up MOUNTAIN p&$%!...)
8. all clutch hydraulics
9. power steering pump
10. batteries/cable
11. fan clutch
12. water pump


that is just a partial list.  i don't ever plan to own a F*rd HD (or SD, whatever) again.  ironic that my work only uses F*rd trucks...huh?  i want either a Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 quad cab with CTD and 5 or 6-speed manual or a GM with a D-Max and either Allison or prefferably the "rarer than a hen's tooth" manual tranny.  the only things that turn me away from the GM is the IFS (i like to wheel my trucks, thanks) and the fact that i'm a HUGE Cummins fan.  not that i dislike the DMax, in fact i love it...but there's just something about that beast of a I6...

i'm such a diesel fanatic, i have thought about putting a DMax and Allison combo in MY truck...yes, my '83...it wouldn't be that hard at all, and man would that be a sweet truck!

z71, I like that psd, but I hate those little u shaped step-ups, nerf bars would have looked way better. I had those u shaped step-ups on my chevy and it was like the first thing I took off.
