what kind of carb on your 350??

so I have a 1974 chevy C10 stepside with a 350. It has an edelbrock carb on it. I am filtering the fuel 3 times with the final stage being a 10 micron aircraft fuel filter. The idle jets repeatedly plug necessitating a carb cleaner and blow out of the ports. (Probably monthly) Edelbrock has a youtube on how to do this for the carb. I am wondering what brands of carbs most of you are using. This is a turbo 400 automatic transmission if it makes a difference. (At least thats what the guy who sold me the truck a few years back told me). Also...I only drive it about 50 miles a week. 4 to trips of 1 mile to take my bicycle down to the flat and once to town (34 miles round trip).

thanks for the input. Certainly food for thought. Maybe a good stock carb would take less tinkering......

Hi Fiddler:
My 76 C-20 has the OEM Rochester 4MV Q-jet on it with the divorced choke. I think it was the best and simplest 4-bbl carb GM made for the trucks.
Regards,
Henry
PS: your trans is a T400 if the pan has the shape of a "fat state of Texas". It is a T350 if the pan is square with a chamfer on one corner...gotta get on your back to find out.

Thanks for the input. So the next time I am under there I will check that transmission out. Good information to have... I am thinking from these responses that the OEM carb would be my best bet. Probably a new one would be made of unobtainium so maybe I can find a good re manufactured one.

If you are plugging up jets that fast, the rubber hoses after the filters may be deteriorating. I don't know how any gas tank contamination could be getting through your combination of filters.
Its quite a bit more expensive, but you should use SAE J30R9 fuel injection hose (or even J30R7 carburetor hose)to replace any suspect rubber hoses. It will hold up to the ethanol in modern gas much better than the older materials.
For my '75 GMC I upgraded my '75 Quadrajet to an '86 Quadrajet (17080213), which was the last carburetor used on trucks before they added any electric or electronic controls. I found it on an '86 Chevy 1 ton pickup in the junkyard, and rebuilt it with a kit from Cliff Ruggles. I also replaced the throttle shaft bushings.

I also have the Holley Street Avenger 670cfm model 4150. But I just bought this truck and need to go through the carb. Its all messed up. When I was in high school I bought a rebuilt Q-jet from Autozone for my '73 350 and I've never had one as nice as that one did.

I agree with replacing all rubber hoses after filters. Also clean any metal fUel lines.
Then replace that carb with a 600 Holley carb with elec choke. Put one on my 69
Camaro and it made more power with no problems.

Yeah so I have already replaced the fuel line from the fuel filter out. The 3 filters are all new line in and out to the carburetor. I finally opened the carb and there was so much crud in the bowls and so much wear on all of the rods, coupled with the high idle and hesitation I decided to install a new edelbrock 1406. What a difference. I haven't had a brand new carb since the 60s, and even that was most likely a rebuilt. WOW! No hesitation after a stop sign/light. Perfectly adjustable idle. The idle drops completely down to where the truck stays put on straight and level ground when I release the brake. I notice that it stops easier like that too. Looks like one too many miles on that old carburetor. I went with the edelbrock because that was already on there and I would have to change less everything..... thanks for all the inputs. Much appreciated.
