Okay, I got the engne for my 87 R10, it came from a 84 suburban.
I have done a few engines so I'm not completely new to it, however they were late 60's early 70's small blocks. There is a bunch of extra crap I'm not used of (holes, bolt holes.....)
Does anyone know where I can find an explode view, break down, or rebuild diagrams ?
I should have it on the stand later today or in the am tomorrow. Right now its sittin on a tire under my engine lift and scaring the heck out of me. :o Makes me wonder if I should look for a older engine. I suppose once I get it on the stand and start to tare it down I'll get a better view of what needs to say and what I can scrap.......
Any advise ?

I'm always out in Enfield so if you ever wanna stop by and check it out I have a few small blocks kickin around. I'm just finishing up an install on an 86 C-10 I just built the engine for. I also just picked up an 87 4x4 with 1 ton axles that I'll be building from the frame up so any ?'s you might have you can check it out along the way sometime.
The accessory holes and mounting brackets are all pretty similar

That sounds good ! Once I get it on the stand and cleaned up, I'll make a list and give you a shout.

The rebuild will be identical to the older ones that you have done before. Just make notes of what unbolted from where and you will be fine.

Yah, I got the engine pulled without anything bolted on. I think I'll be okay once I have the engine apart. Right now its a mess. Its also been a few years since I've done a engine, its like riding a bike though right ?
I'll get the top end torn down and a better look at the block.

Exactly like a bike. I specialize in the early to mid 70's engines (the 010/020 blocks myself and keep as many around as I can get) But they are all baxically the same until 86 when they went to the 1 piece rear main seal. The only thing to remember is to get the right gaskets for your year. pre 1980 is driver side dipstick, 1980 and later is passenger side dip stick, but the cranks, rods, cams, and bearings will all swap between the two. PM me if you need to know anything. I just rebuilt a 1984 305 engine actually, so it is all pretty fresh.

If you have any questions, we will be glad to help. If you rebuilt a Gen I SBC, you should be set. The only difference between the 86 and your 87 would be the heads with the center bolts perpendicular and the one piece seal on the crank. Keep the head orientation in mind if you are staying with TBI.
