Wire Hook Up Issues Need help Identifying Wires
« on: November 12, 2015, 01:26:17 AM »
1) Picture is a connection off headlight harness off front of truck not sure wear it plugs into.
2) Black wire with Pink stripe near ground block. From what I could tell it went to the ground block mounted on the left side of cab
3) Brown wire off headlight switch male connection
4) Orange brown wire is hot when truck key is turned on.  I think it has something to do with interior lights

Are you sure they were ever plugged into anything?  I know my truck has a couple different plugs that don,t go anywhere. It's a Custom Deluxe and didn,t have many features like A/c, and Cruise Control, but the factory used the same wiring harnesses in many models, leaving some plugs obsolete.

Not sure if they were or weren't plugged into anything. Goes into thr one thing I won't do that again.  Label label label.    Just running into an issue of not getting power to any of the lights or horn.

Yes, labeling with some masking tape and a sharpie can save a lot of headache! Especially if you ever pull your carb off man, I've gotten in the habit of taking 50 pictures and labeling every part before I tear into anything. It can be tedious, but after a couple of bad experiences, I learned my lesson. Good luck!

What year is the truck? I can look for a wiring diagram.

1) Windshield washer pump
2) Pink w/black stripe is an ignition feed (hot with key on).
3) Feed to cab roof lights if installed, otherwise unused.
4) Orange & brown, or orange & white?  Where does the other end of the wire go?
5) Fuel tank selector switch.
6) Unused "test port" for transmission TCC circuit.

Note for next time before I rip and pull wire all wire gets labelled both ends.

This is a very good idea!   ;)

Thanks for the help!! The truck is 1986 Silverado sold it the year after high school.  It was to pertical for the long Alberta winters and the original owner had always parked for the winter.  I always regretted selling her.  I was pulling old pictures one night for a couple of my Chevy buddies to show them the old whip.  Then I got interested to see what was kicking around on the buy sell and I saw what looked like the old truck not as fine as she was in her glory but still together.  I took it as a sign and made sure I was getting her back.  So the past year has been a labour of love and respect to that old truck from the past.  Restoring her to the glory years when I had her in high school.
