ECM information for 1985 C10
« on: November 14, 2011, 10:02:37 AM »
Ive dug around in here and cannot seem to find specifics on what the ECM controls/monitors in a 1985 C10.  The previous owner has replaced the carb with an Edelbrock...not sure if the distributor has been swapped but it does have two extra connections that my past non-ECM chevys didnt have.  Im just wanting to get all of the uneeded wiring out of the bay.

I thought that a couple of wires from the ECM plug in had to be connected to bypass it all or just get a new HEI distributor like most have done.

How can I tell if the distributor is stock or non computer controlled? I suppose there would be a circuitboard of some type inside right?

There is a post here about this and a link on 73-87.com on how to convert a ESC distributor.

So after looking around the site, I have confirmed that my ESC distributor has been removed already and replaced with a standard HEI.  As long as my distributor and carb are non-ECM then I should be able to totally remove the ECM and all related wiring?

So you weren't referring to the distributor having extra connections then what were you talking about? Where are the extra connectors?

There are two smaller clip on connections in front of the ignition connection...where a tachometer would normally connect to the distributor ......I have no tachometer.
