New Cab Mounts

Hi Guys,
I have a 78 C20 Scottsdale long bed, I'm going to replace the OEM mounts and the instructions say that I need to cut the rear mount spacers. I was wondering if any of you guys have cut these spacers. I would like to have a spare pair in case I screw up the cut or if I want to go back to the OEM type. So any brain storms out there, be great to hear from you guys.

Brass Bow Tie

The bow tie was missing before we met.
Kept looking online but again, being the skin-flint, I is, it looked easy enuf to make.
Picked a piece of .010 brass from Hobby Lobby for $4.00.
Made a tracing rub of the frame it was supposed to go into and cut out a pattern.
Before C.A.D. meant computer aided design, C.A.D. meant cardboard aided design and both serve me well. There was enuf material to layout 2 bow ties, so one was used as a prototype to prove out the concept and then the second was made with great care to avoid any kinks or dents.
The biggest time consumer was fitting the bow tie into the frame, because the walls of the frame have draft to facilitate original molding ejection out of the mold.
Once the shape and size was achieved the Starburst was drawn with sharpie marker.
Each wedge section was masking taped off and 600g wet/dry was used to remove any scratches and then very fine scotch Brite softened the sanding marks. Once each wedge section was completed, Flitz polish was used to bring up the shine and to help protect from oxidation until a clear gloss can be shot.
Then 2 sided mounting tape will secure it until a stone hits it...oh well, it was a fun learning experience.
In the photo the pattern is in the middle and prototype on the bottom.

9.5 14 bolt spider gear pin bolt broke, HELP!

Well boys I'm in a bit of a predicament, I'm moving from the Portland area to missoula mt this weekend and I'm getting close to getting my 76 k20 road ready, while changing the rear diff fluid I noticed the spider gears are worn pretty bad I don't want to dump a bunch of money into this axle as I have a 14 bolt full floater for the future but I need to drive this out there this weekend, I pulled the bolt out and the majority stayed in the carrier, do you think I can limp it like this? Any help is appreciated!

When I picked up the 78 Big 10, I was handed 2 keys. 1 for the door and 1 for the ignition.
I figured, No big deal, I'll just get a spare set made.
On test drive the ignition cylinder was a bit fiddley and the key would come half way out while running, so after getting it home and playing with it a bit more, I decided to replace the cylinder. The replacement came with 2 keys, so half the problem was fixed. And that swap out was posted on here.
So now, off to try and get a spare door key cut...(...this should be easy...)
Well, box stores can't do it.. terrific.
Let's drop by the stealership and see if they can make it happen...and the conversation went something like this: "Hi, can I get a duplicate key made from this door key?"
Associate: "Let me check if we have the right blank."
Leaves with my key and comes back with a blank.
Assoc.: "That will be $42.00."
Shocked me takes a step back, "What did you just say?"
Assoc.:" That will be $42.00."
I step closer and repeat: "Did you say $42.00 to cut a duplicate key?"
Ass oc.: "Yes, sir $42.00."
Me: "How much for the blank?"
Ass oc: "$8.00."
Me: "I'll take the blank."
Ass oc.: "Would you like one of our free calenders?"
Me: "No thanks, I don't need a daily reminder of something I won't ever forget."

I know I'm a bit of a tight-wad, but $42.00 to stick a key in a machine and press a button...Not in a million years. I'll drill holes and slap a barndoor hasp on first...

Need Advice for Front Differential Choice

I'm looking for recommendations for a front differential. I have a clutch-type LSD in the rear and am looking for something better than the open diff I have in the front. I'm NOT building a rock crawler and this truck will see few 4x4 trails. I need something that will get me out of my driveway when the rain turns it into a slick track, and something that will perform well on the snowy icy roads in the National Park that is 30 minutes up the mountain from here. I'd like something well-mannered, like my LSD. It doesn't make any noise, doesn't intrude too much on normal driving, but still gives me the option to put in heavier springs and get more aggressive if I choose to later.

What does everyone think? Another clutch-type LSD? A gear-driven Eaton True Trac? A lunchbox locker?
