Manifold Restrictor Port Gasket Question
« on: June 01, 2019, 12:46:36 PM »
I have a 1984 Chevy Stepside and I'm installing a Chevy 350 crate motor and my question is - do I want to install the "restrictor port" on the intake manifold gaskets?
I'm not installing any pollution control devices on the engine or exhaust.  Chevy 350 , Turbo 350, dual exhausts.

Sounds like you want to install the restrictor

No, I want to install what needs to be on the engine and do it right the first time.
I guess sometimes the stupid questions is what it is.

I think VZ is suggesting you 'want to' install it because there is a benefit.

I can't read his mind, but off the cuff, these engines were designed (from 1955?) to utilize a cross flow of exhaust under the intake manifold to atomize the gas with HEAT.

I'm not familiar with the your vintage intake gasket, but with most Small Block Chevy, the design is similar.

Where do you live?

Not quite sure what your response means but...

You: do I want to install the "restrictor port" on the intake manifold gaskets?

me: Sounds like you want to install the restrictor

based on this: I'm not installing any pollution control devices on the engine or exhaust.  Chevy 350 , Turbo 350, dual exhausts.

So if you aren't planning on running any pollution controls and are interested in performance gains as you indicated, either block or restrict crossover passages.

I'm back again. Let me re-phrase my question.

I'm installing a Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold on to my motor. Do I need to install restrictor plates on the manifold gaskets? My build is a crate 350 with Edelbrock manifold & 4 bbl.carburetor, dual exhaust. There are no pollution control components.

Johnny states the restrictors were use to utilize a cross flow of exhaust under the intake manifold to atomize the gas with HEAT.
For performance purpose we don't want to heat up the manifold by use of the restrictors, correct?

As always thanks for your help.

Same answer as above. Use the restrictor plates. You've said it yourself, you are not using pollution controls. Does your aftermarket intake even have a crossover port to worry about anyway?
