Time Wasted...Time Saved

(1/1)

Chanman09:
This weekend I pulled the rear most wiring harness off of my 86 c20.  My headlights ended up having all the sockets and ends replaced, so I just figured the rear would be the same.

As I was pulling them, I noticed the bulbs were gross and corroded but the wiring and sockets weren't that bad.  Once they were pulled, I checked continuity between the female, square/cube connector thing that attaches to the rest of the harness.  I got zeros where I neede zeros and cleaned my ground straps.  Awesome!!

I attached the battery to the truck, and turned on my lights.  I went to the front to admire my work once again and double check blinkers.  Then, I crawled under the rear of the truck with a test light to touch wires.  No light!  I tried several different places to ground thinking it's gotta be my light not grounded well.  Still no power to the test light.  Dang.  Ok.

Well, it must be further up where there's something wrong.  So I started examing the harness wires along the chanel of the frame.  Looked good.  No obviousburns, or chews, or tears.  So, I moved to the side of the truck.  under the driver side gas tank.  I was Looking at the wires and gave a little tug.

Just then, then, the whole thing fell on my face and it had been cut at some point right behind the cab.

Well, that was a waste of time.

But also saved me a bunch of time messing around.

Moral of the story-  Start in the obvious spots first.

Duh!!

Doh!  :o
