Windshield channel Drain holes?

I removed my windshield because i had a leak, and when i took off my dash i noticed it was coming from the rubber seal...small water leak, but was needed to get fixed.

So, when i removed the rubber seal, i noticed that the window channel had some rust. I too my air angle grinder 3m roloc disc's to it, and found that it was in good shape.  Had Small spots that were rusty, but grinded till i saw shiny steel. No holes, no rust through spots.

I did notice 2 perfectly round holes on each side, and think that they are drain holes. Is my assumption correct?

It is my understanding that there are drain holes at the bottom channel to keep water from pooling there, since they did not use an adhesive type sealant originally.

Yes these are drain holes for the water.MAKE SURE these holes are free from crud  and sealant goop.Once these are clogged water/dirt will sit under the glass and eventually rot the channel out.I had to totally replace one on my 1st cab.

I am not sure that drilling additional holes would be advantageous. Unless there is evidence that moisture was damaging the middle area I would leave it alone, and like 80stepsideguy said, keep the existing holes clear and open for drainage.

only reason i  wanted to drill new another one is because i had 2 on the  pass side, and 1 on the driver side.

It was leaking  on the drivers side, so that was my thought

If you do decide to drill holes take a  phillips screwdriver or a center punch and push the metal around the holes down.That way they match the corners and the water will fall into the hole and into the cowl then it will drain off to the sides.

Anyone have pictures of where the drain holes go? I took my windshield out, found bad rust, and that someone had used bondo. Not good. I am going to do some welding and refinish but I'm unsure where the drain holes go.

They will be on both sides about 8" in.  (from memory)

Thanks, I cut out a good channel I found at the junk yard and am welding it in. It had the holes, and I may drill a few more to help with drainage.
