might be getting a NP440/np833 but have questions
« on: January 13, 2017, 12:02:27 AM »
this one is a 4x4 with a 208 (cast iron). im reading on Diesel hub that the max input Tq is only 270Ft. i didnt think it would out perform the sm465 but the OD i what im after. but has anyone really pushed these things? ive heard that mopar used them and they handled the power from a big block and the "power" from the 6.2. im wanting to get my 84 on the road its a k30 srw, i have a few 350s sitting and i think im going to use the one from my crew cab since its a tbi.

but my main thing is who has used and worked with them? could you haul a car trailer?

They've pulled lots of hay wagons and chopper boxes on farms. I don't remember 208's having reliability problems. Shock load is what breaks drivetrains. They'll tolerate a lot of torque if it's applied smoothly, generally speaking. I'm far from an expert on them though.

i was going to pay 400 for the setup. then come to find out it doesnt have a bell housing. and thats a deal breaker for me, the guy thought you can use a sm465 bell housing. so im passing this one up unless it only cost 100

The 4 speed OD had 2 bell housing configurations and most of the 83 on up bell housing was dual pattern

why do these sm465 bell housings look different than just the single pattern ones with only 4 holes?
