Difference in cummins engine?

Hey guys thanks for the time and help.  I have a 1992 cummins that came out off a D250 and I am trying to rebuild it.  My question is what is the difference between the the 89-93 and the 94-98.5 engine? The rebuild kits I keep seeing for sale keep saying 94 and up. Also what "brand" rebuild kits are good and reliable?

1994 was the year Cummins introduced the "P" pump. Regarded by most to be the best mechanical injection pump offered on the Cummins engine.

1998 was when they went to the four valve head.

Oh, and having had NTC-350 Cummins "Big Cam" engines in the past I can only recommend original Cummins factory parts.

block no but add ons yes. you can convert a ve pump (89-93) to a p pump

Yea I new about the pumps and all the additional electronics after 1998.5 but I just wanted to make sure before I bought part.  Although the original cummins parts are outstanding are there any better performance brand names that would perform even better?
