Axle swap
« on: September 26, 2006, 10:07:00 PM »
I have a 1979 k10 4x4 shortbed that I am building. I recently bought a 1981 3/4 ton longbed. I would like to put the 3/4 ton axles under the 79. Will I have to make any modifications or will the 1981 3/4 ton axles bolt directly to my 79? Also the 79 has a 12 bolt and the 81 has a 14 bolt (9.5 ring gear). Will this cause any problems?

Thanks, Dustin

Yoke/driveshat will be different on the axle side for the 14bolt.
Front should be a 10bolt for both.

they make a u-joint so you can use a 1/2 ton drive shaft on a 3/4 ton rear end....other than that its a direct bolt in....
