I'm planning on a 6.0 swap this winter and would like to know what tranny would be best to put behind it. It will be going into an 85 k10 4x4 with a 208 transfer case. From what I've read a 4l65,70 or 80 will work.

I may be wrong but I've heard that on the newer transmissions the transfer case is on the opposite side. My truck is 2wd so I didn't have to worry about it.

4l60e or 4l80e would be my choice

I think GM originally put the 4L60e behind the 4.3L, 4.8L, and the 5.3L, but if it was a 6.0L it got the 4L80e. I am sure there are exceptions. There are slight wiring differences to the transmissions between the 4L80e and the 4L60e, so I would suggest finding a wiring harness for the LS that matches your transmission of choice. Given the option I would choose the 4L80e. I think you will find that there is only a few hundred dollars difference between the 2 transmissions depending on where you pick one up.

Thank you. I just want to get everything figured out and done with the least amount of headaches.

I have a 6.0, 4L80e and an NP205 with a passenger side drop. Everything bolted up just fine i just had to move the cross member for the transmission back.

Get the engine and Trans together from the same donor vehicle
Theres a lot of variations in electronic stuff
If you get a engine from from donor and a Trans from another they probably won't play well together
Also , the NV 3500 and 4500 manual transmissions work with a 208
We have the 3500 behind a 5.3 and it's a blast to drive
Lot more fun than an automatic that's always in the wrong gear
