Title: Driver side tank doesnt work
Post by: cwertman87 on December 01, 2007, 07:48:11 AM
On my 87 k1500 with the 350 when i flick the fuel tank selector switch from the right tank to the left tank the engine just dies.BUT when i hit the switch the fuel gauges goes up now either the tank selector valve is shot or does each tank have its own fuel pump? if anyones had these symptoms please let me know what you have done.

P.S.: the left tank has been replaced so maybe its just something loose above the tank!

Each tank has a fuel pump.

Was the pump good in the tank when it was replaced?  Is there gas in the Left tank?  Can you hear the pump prime when it is swapped over?

they new tank was put in before i got the truck, according to the gauge it says theres 3/4 of a tank and i think i can hear the pump. has any one ad a problem with the actual valve that switches between the tanks or know anyone that has?

My valve just went bad on my Daily driver about a month ago.  You are saying you hear the pump and the guage reading is changing from tank to tank?  Do you know if there is fuel in the tank?

is there a pump in both tanks for all the years?

I know that we used to have a 73/4
and it had just the one on the block not in the tank. Or at least not that i ever knew of.

No, not all years. 87 and up had the fuel pump in the tank, thus dual tanks = dual pumps.

well apparently i fixed it! i just kept switching between the two tanks and i tried to start it on the left tank and it started. i thought it maybe stuck on the right side but its real doggish so I'm going dump some octane booster so i can burn it. my boss told me to try this because he hd the same problem so i figured what the heck it can only help so thanks for the helpful thoughts guys
