205 transfer case
« on: September 13, 2006, 12:06:00 PM »
Can anyone tell me how difficult it is going to be to replace the 203 transfer case in my 78 chevy with a 205 from a 74?

It's not that bad, there is about 10 bolts that hold it on plus the drive shafts, the worste thing that would keep you from changing it could possibly be the transfer case adapter plate, not sure if they are the same or not but I believe they are. It would also depend on what transmission you have in it a th400 has a 32 spline output shaft and a th350 has a 27 spline shaft and a 4 speed has a 10 spline shaft so watch out for that, whatever the case may be you should be able to find most of the parts on ebay and Jeg's sels them.

It really depends on what trans was in front of each.  If they are the same trans it will be much simpler and will bolt in.  If they aren't the same you will need the Trans Adapter for the supplied trans.
