dont forget it might be the alternator. When charging the battery it should be about 14.4v I think from memory or was it 13.4? grey matter letting me down!!

Checking the battery you could always put yr tongue across it  ;D    [Disclaimer- only joking!]

Electrical goes in the interior section.

The battery needs to be sufficiently charged before testing. A load test at 1/2 cca for 15 seconds you should not carry the voltage below 9.6volts.

I've never used them, but, in my opinion, they can read the voltage when you bring it in.  You can do that also with a guage, voltmeter.  I don't think they can tell if it holds a charge or not (i may be wrong) but, unless you put a drain on it for a bit, then recheck it, it would tell more.

a) i believe i did, but the original post has (mysteriosly?) disappeared, so same difference.   (?)

b) What i'm basically trying to assertain is if the battery testing going on at auto parts houses legit or some rouse to try to get you to buy a new battery?

UPDATE:

Ok, i see what happened----the post got moved to the interior (???) section.  Not sure what the battery has to do with the interior, but ok.

We should just leave this post as is, because it's getting alot of traffic this way.

you get it to full charge and have them load test it ,,Watch the gauge yourself to,,

poor ,am can dissable the ign. and crank 15 sec. and watch that the volts don't drow below 9.6
