2 piece rear main seal
« on: March 15, 2023, 06:29:31 AM »
I have a quick question. On my 84 Sierra 2500, with an aftermarket 350 and TH400, do I need to disconnect the transmission to do the rear main seal? I'm doing the oil pan gasket at the same time.
Thanks

If it is in fact a 2 piece rear main, you remove the oil pan and rear main bearing cap.

Only time you should have to remove your transmission is if the engine has a one piece rear main.

I haven't seen a two piece seal since I rebuilt my '57 235 IL6, that was 45 years ago!

Surprised they used them for so long, but hey....right?
