bucket seats / console from 80's blazer
« on: March 30, 2009, 01:06:57 AM »
i found a donor vehicle which is a 1980's blazer.
i wanted to take the bucket seats and console and put it into my 87 short step.
will this be a direct fit with the same bolt pattern or is there a difference between the seat mounting pattern on a blazer vs. a pickup, and if the same are they the same for all years? additionally would it all be the same for Chevy and GMC?

was the bucket seat/center console option available on pickups or was this a blazer/suburban option only?
what do you think a fair price would be for the buckets and console?

thanks

our trucks the older ones did come with bucket option but if you want to put the seats in you have to make brackets or buy them and drill at least 2 holes per seat along with holes for the console. depending on the condition of the seats is what you go for in price. and yes Chevy and gmc parts are interchangeable

i will be taking the seat together with it's bracket, how much retrofit work will be required than. just curious, why the difference? what year did buckets in a pickup stop being an option.

thanks

thanks Irish.
i did more searching on the site and see this is a popular topic. captkaos made reference to a very informative article
http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/interior/factory_buckets.htm

from what i understand the retrofit will not be a simple bolt in. looks like you will need "mounting tabs" and "pickup bucket specific brackets" am i interperting this correct? has anyone done this?

if you do not care that the seats move independant is it possible to just bolt the seats to the existing bench bracket assembly and put the console in the center? i know it sounds a bit odd.

thanks

I've thought about that for mine but I'm not really sure how they would act, since the bench seat has its own frame work if you just add the buckets they might bind up on the rails and not move at all

A few people have retrifitted buckets in their truck but they used the factory brackets and either made a mounting tab or cut the one out of a donor.
If you get seat brackets from a bucket equipped Suburban they will bolt in with modification (bending the rear mounting)

Blazer floors are flat and all others have a hump, truck have a long hump to clear the side mounted gas tanks. this is why they are different.  There is nothing on the Blazer brackets that you can use on a pickup.

thanks capt

concerning what you said....

"If you get seat brackets from a bucket equipped Suburban they will bolt in with modification (bending the rear mounting)"

i am guessing that besides the bend you will still need the mounting tabs, correct?

assuming that i can get the brackets from the suburban what will the easiest method of installation be?  drill/tap   or weld?

I would weld it back like factory.
