My 86's bench spent most of it's life supporting a very hefty man. When you sit in the driver seat, you sink... ALOT.

So today at the pick 'n pull I was grabbin a couple of things for the focus and I started looking at the HUGE line of gmc/chevy trucks. Tons there. Unfortunately every one of the benches in the color to match mine were destroyed. Seen lots of use.

Then I scored one out of truck, but its the tweed type fabric although with no tears at all! One small burn hole that's hard to see. A test sit and it's nice and firm.

So now I'm trying to think on whether to try and dye it, or find a nice bench cover for it. I have an all red/maroon interior which I decided will get black introduced to it.

So what do you think? Dye it or cover it? Pic to come soon.

Well, what can I buy from the local hardware store that won't cause the fabric to get hard/crusty?

SEM the real good stuff but super expensive?

Since my truck is red and black 2 two tone - I was thinking of making the main fabric part of the seat red and the vinyl sides and rear black.

Would this be re-upholstery or an actual bench cover? Cheers!

Is there a price difference between vinyl and fabric?

I would be after a 2 tone, red and black.
