Title: 1986 C10 adding Vacuum brake booster to manual brakes
Post by: TK27 on July 30, 2012, 08:47:35 PM: Restoring a 1986 C10 for my sixteen year old son, i would really like to add a vacuum brake booster to the brakes so i will feel a little better when he leaves the driveway. Just wondering if anybody has done this and what is entailed. Thanks for the help

But, you'll have to do a little research to verify brake line fitting size and possibly procure a pushrod end that attaches the booster to the pedal arm. I suggested this part number, because it uses a dual diaphragm booster for use with heavy-duty brakes, which translates to easier braking. The Booster assembly mounts to the firewall via 6 through-studs.

Check with the store on this site and/or PM Captkaos (the store/site owner) for availability of a tailored kit.

Post by: Blazin on July 30, 2012, 09:59:32 PM: Take the booster, vac hose, and the rod off the pedal out of a similar vintage truck. Your master cylinder should bolt up to it. If not get a new one or if the one thats with the booster is good use it.
Pull vac off the intake right behind the carb.

Post by: TK27 on July 30, 2012, 10:18:32 PM: I was reading another post on the site and it was talking about using JB5 double dia for 23/4 brakes and JB3 single dia for 2" brakes, do i need to worry about that or just go with the double ?? Double sounds better and they are about the same in price. Thanks for the help

Post by: Sartobuilt on July 31, 2012, 08:09:57 AM: You might want to get the brake pedal also. My parts book shows a diffrent part number for the JB1 brakes. And I know I had to change mine when I converted to a hydro boost from a vacuum assist.
