Just wanted to share my newest project. I installed a set of 2009 silverado camper/towing mirrors.
The blinkers, heat, and power functions all work perfect. As you can see in the pics I retained the
1982 factory truck mirror mounts and modified (machined new tubes) the 2009 mirror mounts to fit.
It was a challange, but not too bad! ;D

WOW, that is awesome. I have been thinking about what kind of mirrors to put on my 3+3. I do not like the tripod mirrors but I think I might lose visibility with the standard mirrors. You should think about making them for other members of the forum to buy. I know I would be interested when I get to that point.

Those dont look bad at all! Very nice!
-
Great work, thats awsome.
-
if your not going to make them for us to buy i want to see how you adapted them! That is awesome! Ive been trying to figure out a way to do that for a while now. Very nice work!

wow! they look good, very nice work.
-
I like that look.
-
Cool.
Those look alot better than the "west coast" mirrors that were the option "back in the day".
-
thats looks darn good
-
I like them!
-
looks good man im trying to figure out a rig up like that for my dually i was going to go with 94-98 dodge fold out mirrors but that looks mean ... was it hard to machine the shaft to get them to work?
-
can you still open your vent windows?
-
Should do a writeup in the projects section on how to do the mod.
-
This is the projects section :D Just have to document it.
-
I suppose eh? :P
-
How exactly did you modify them and hook them up to the original mounts? I tried to pm you but your inbox is full
-
Are there any in detail instructions? I'm very interested in this mod
-
JCKustoms, what do I have to do to get that exact setup on my truck?? Personal message?? Have you make a set and buy them? I want exactly what you have there, heat, power adjusters, turn signals, everything.
I have been considering building my own set too, but that has all features I want. If you had an extra set I would buy them.
-
Could I get some more info on this please
-
Can u please e-mail
Me how you did this awesome conversion thanks in advance

So this topic has been read almost 16,000 times.. I'm curious if anyone else has mounted a set of mirrors like this? I'm tempted to buy a set and see how exactly it needs to be done myself. I'm curious if anybody has had a set of the stock 09 mirrors in their hands and can tell me if the arms will pop off the vertical part that hooks them to the triangle.. curious if that in itself will be difficult.

2003-current tow mirrors of that design are fairly easily disassembled. You can even get a retrofit set online for 90s model trucks and use those as you won't need the door mount (traiangle as you called it) and they are probably built the same.

not mine but from facebook a chad wulf

I cut the original vertical bar off the tow mirrors and welded a longer one on to fit down in the original square body mount then drilled 2 holes to tighten the screws to hold the mirror. Then did a little plastic work to put the tow mirrors back together

Those look sweet! Definitely want to do a set for my truck!

Hmm, I may have to pick a set up and do that. My truck is a 1980 K10 and those would look better than the ugly clamp on things I have now.
I found a link for some 88-98 for $87. I can get the newer ones for $77 and free shipping off flea bay.
Irish_Alley, thanks for those pics! Takes a lot of the guessing out of it.
-
i paid 10 for one off ebay, the guy said it cost more to ship it think i sent him a few extra lol. but that way if i break anything i will only be out 10 bucks instead of 70

Sweet deal! I'll have to keep my eyes out. If you haven't taken it apart yet, maybe you could take some pics and describe the process of disassembly.
-
lol i havnt taken mine apart yet either. been sitting on it for over a year, been too busy to tinker with the small things. i was trying to mount mine in a different fashion and still use the stock mount. but this way is simpler and looks easy. maybe tonight after work (midnight) i can tinker with some things.

I just ordered a set, but it'll probably be awhile before I can mess with them too. Hoping to freshen up a 350 this winter to replace the 250 that's in it come spring. Also have a K20 that needs a new frame welded on from the cab back. Got one sitting there waiting, need to get it done so my Dad can plow his long A driveway this winter!
-
well i found my one that i got in the garage today so i decided to take it apart. its the sail style so the glass just pops off the tow style that has an upper and lower.
found this write up also.

Irish_Alley, that's awesome! Thanks a lot for the link and pics! My mirrors aren't here yet, excited to get my hands on them :)
-
i must add. if you just simply add a pole down that you will only be able to crack your vent windows. i love my vents so im going to see if do both

Interested in what you come up with. Would certainly like to keep them usable.
-
i was driving home and i happened to see how close they hit the stock pole. might be able to slide them out a little and this might clear the glass, or at least i hope it does.
-
Irish_Alley, thanks for posting the disassembly pictures. Any chance you measured the inside diameter of the tubing for the internal framework?
Thanks
Dawson

No, I still have the stock pieces at my buddy's. Starting to think it's going to look like an eye sore. Idk why if it's cause we're used to seeing smaller mirrors on our trucks or its cause the way how we want to mount them.
-
I had that same idea and yours looks exactly like what i want. Any chance you could tell me how you set yours up?
-
Hey bro those mirrors are awesome! Where did you get them from and how much did you pay for them?
Thanks,
Michael Pallos
