Nearly done with throttle and kick down cables. Waiting for parts, turned attention today to the interior.

Insulating barrier (from this website online store) installed. I had a mess with the painter spraying seam sealer. That was scraped off but left behind a residue that doesn't always stick well. Turns out if you heat the sound proofing stuff just a bit, it gets more pliable and the stick sticks better. Fitted but didn't yet glue the jute in place.

The wiring is nearly 100%, but I've got some whiz bang stuff to add, will wait for that before posting the progress.

Thanks, Johnny Popper!

It's got a TH350 and Np205. Both rebuilt. Tranny was in really bad shape, transfer case was fine. But you can shift the transfer case gears easily now. Engine is a built 350, 359hp, 400 ft-bs torque. If I tow something, I'll use low gear so I don't blow the tranny.

I'm putting in vinyl. Spent to much time as a kid getting dirt and sand out of dad's work car, he was a field man for the canning factory. I got a carpet cover for the back. Just ordered seat belts. Yikes, I must be getting close...

Thanks! I asked the engine builder to keep the performance in check so I could run with regular gas. Roller cam was requirement. Since the original engine was long gone, got a '91 sbc with cast iron vortec heads. It feels ready to run, but haven't made it out of the driveway.

Thinking about calling a glass shop to install the windshield and rear glass. (should have gotten a' different year, easier to get glass). It was a bit of an ordeal to get the glass smoked instead of green, would hate to have a rookie moment. But those youtube videos make it look so easy.

Yes, I agree about the glass, having had my own rookie moments.

I have the door glass out of the passenger side, thank God for youtube sometimes!

What did you do to get the windows 'smoked'? Tint prior to install? I will probably do that to my '80.

The front and rear windows are smoked from factotry. Turns out the side windows for 1980 are different than other years in thickness, so the guy says I'll have to have tint applied, which means I'm unlikely to ever tint them. Search around on internet, you may find a better deal.

Place I got them from had some ordering issues but they resolved right away. It's a good shop, so custom hot rods . I received a small rear window for somebody else's truck and then a green tinted rear window. Not worth it to ship back. If you're in Washington, stop by for a window.

I'd fully dismantled, cleaned up one side vent window, then the electrical arrived - and I got distracted. I agree on the youtube videos, don't think I remember what I do with those rivets...

Neighbor and paint shop guys will both will have a good recommendation for a window shop. One less source of stress.

Thanks for that!

Trying to understand smoked factory glass-front top band, or full tint? Rear is pretty clear.

Are there degrees of tint/smoke?

Side may not ever be tinted, but why? Scratching etc?

The front is dark band on top, clear on bottom. Rear is solid smoke, not super dark. I didn't think to ask about levels of darkness since I kept seeing chevy truck glass with just tint. This is so custom, I probably could have.

My experience with add on tint, including the windows coming out of the truck now, is that it turns purple over time and bubbles/curls. It's a mess. Maybe I've had the wrong installers, but it was even bad when I had my front house windows tinted when I lived in Texas. Maybe if I still lived in Texas, wow that sun was hot. Maybe that hot sun was the cause...

If I can get the dash installed this weekend, I was going to call the glass guy for next week, but shucks, forgot to order a new rear view mirror. These exchanges always bring out something if forgotten about!

Thought I'd get the vinyl floor in. Cut back the jute around 4x4 stick. It makes sense to keep the jute under the shifter boot, but it seems that it would just capture moisture and that is new better cutting the jute back around the outside of the vinyl. But that could look wonky.

Thoughts? How did you do yours?

Ok, I'm back, always asking questions, trying to learn before I do. Well, sometimes....

I've seen on the web that some don't even cut their jute back to the hole from my previous question. So I'm just sticking with it back at the hole.

Today's question is how far up the firewall to run the vinyl flooring. The flooring is too long. The only hint from the many instructional videos is to make it long enough to cover the paint. I'm keeping it long for the time being. I've put painters plastic over the truck, heated the vinyl an hour, it's 55F in the barn. It's been laying out on the floor for months. Wasn't enough time with the heater, I need that heater running for hours, but it got soft enough to get it mostly in.

But you can see there's the nice shiny sound barrier that runs up to the cardboard firewall cover. Where does one take the vinyl to?

Of yeah, my back ordered poly came in and I WA able to finish the work bench. To move to use, lol.

Thanks!
