Make sure you have a good welder when you do this.

Hey Vile, I never did see the pics of the frame braces you made for this, do you still have them around somewhere? I looked back through the thread and didn't see them.

It looks like this...

When I get a chance, I'll take an actual pic.

Nice work. Will be doing somethin very similar to my 85 soon  ive never done auto body but i own a welding business and it doesnt look too difficult. Ive done a lot of research on conversions and your thread is by far the most helpful. Love the truck. Very nice. And nice welding too

I just shortened a lwb frame to a swb for my 83 that had major frame damage. This job is a lot easier than u think.

This thread has been restored due to photobucket failure. The continuation of this build is here:

just wanted to echo what everyone else has already said; great thread, great info!! thank you

So you essentially went with a new floor and bedsides from the aftermarket?

Are you happy with the fit/finish? What's the damage on something like that?

Yes all new aftermarket except the tailgate i am using is a GM gate. I did use an aftermarket to make into a smooth gate originally but that's for something else now. Having all new metal is nice but to get factory or better fitment requires work. Sometimes LOTS of work but at least you know what you've got. Definitely pros and cons to both used and new. I lost track of the thousands I put into my trucks. i don't count anymore lol

Lol, ain't that the truth! I guess I meant to say, are you happy with the outcome? What brand bedsides did you use? I only ask because I'm wrestling with cutting down my lwb bedsides vs buying new aftermarket like you did. Thanks again man

I actually sold a long bed to make way for the new parts. The bed looks spectacular now, I love having a nice new bed floor too that isn't pulverized. It would suck to do all of that work and not be happy with the outcome, so it's all in your level of skill and patience.
