4x4 driveline
« on: March 06, 2012, 05:07:40 PM »
Ok, so my 78 Chevy has full time four wheel drive, I'm not liking the gas mileage so what all would I need to change to make it a two wheeler until I lock it in 4?

maunal hubs and a transfer case conversion kit. both can be found at any 4x4 shop and online. mile marker makes the conversion kit and warn makes good hubs.

X2 on what beastie said. I have used the milemarker conversion kit a few times in the past and also used the warn hubs. Neither product ever gave me any trouble.

I personally use Warn hubs now, I have used others in the past.  The biggest difference is the type of internal metal brands use.
The 2 that are mostly know are Warn and Milemarker.  The only real difference between the 2 is the knob you use to engage 4wd.  Warn are plastic and Milemarker is metal.
I like the Warn only because I have had to many Milemarkers on older 4wd vehicles that were rusted at the knob and a P.I.T.A. to get apart.  I don't need that much frustration in my life anymore.   :o

That's funny! I just told the cable company the same thing about my digital cable box.  ;D

Warn are plastic and Milemarker is metal.

Warn premium hubs have metal knobs.

OEM Spicer's were a plastic knob.

(That should help with the decision  ;))
