Replacement Seat Cover, winter project.
« on: December 06, 2018, 09:49:54 AM »
Does anyone have experience replacing a seat cover, better yet..a good experience purchasing a quality cover at a fair price and installed very nicely. I'm looking for a nice full bench (upper/lower) heavy duty black vinyl cover. The upper and lower cushion is nice and firm, just a little sag on the drivers side. Will need some advice also on the best way to firm-up the drivers side seat.

I didn't see any on the site store, but will contact cap'n kaos to check.

I replaced mine and installed heated seats at the same time. my foam on drivers side was bad, so I cut out the old and glued in new foam (same thickness). I then covered it with 30mm wadding, (makes cover go on tight) gives it a soft feel. use trim-fix adhesive to keep wadding in place (on foam). if too tight to get cover on, cover wadding in plastic bag makes cover go on easier (then remove plastic) the cover came with hog rings. was a easy job to do and turned out sweet.

Looks good.
The bottom and even the back foam is available new for the 73-91 bench seats.  I believe the lowback bucket foams are as well.   If it's in your budget I highly recommend replacing at least the bottom foam completely and adding a layer of compressed jute or cotton canvas sailcloth between the springs and the foam.  If you have access to the right density upholstery foam you can sculpt new foams with an electric carving knife...  I've done this with several snowmobile, ATV, Motorcycle and Truck seats that didn't have equivalent new foams available.
How were the springs looking?
There's a fellow that goes by the handle TKCR on one of the other squarebody boards that restores bench seats better than new.  He's in Ohio and I'm Not sure if he's active on this board.
This is his bench seat thread on the other board.  Hopefully this isn't verboten to post...  http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=715398
