what are you guys doing to get power to the ground efficiently

4'11's gears, with eaton limited slip,holeshot 3600 stall convertor, in a 1978 chevy truck SWB < short wheel base..
will be a gen VI 454 with 353049 big oval port heads.camshaft is undecided...

what are you guys doing to get power to the ground efficiently...

Power to the ground efficiently isn't usually done with 4.11's and a 3600 stall.  ;D  Don't know what your trans is. Are you saying you wan't efficiency? Or are you saying for just good traction? Are you street driving this truck? Drag racing? Daily Driver? Give as much info as you can.

street/strip....
when complete will be a th400 hughes rebuild steel sprag and such.....
 

title says it all. how to get the truck to "hook up" get traction,power to the ground,launch,accelerate..
front 60/rear 40 shocks,disabling the sway bar,drag racing tricks..60' times under 2 seconds,traction bars,4 link
what does it take to get the power from the motor through the tranny then driveline into the rear axle
then to the rims and tires and finally to the ground,asphalt concrete,prepped track,street et slicks/radial slicks..
typical modest 500 horse big block gen VI with 049 heads little port work,blending..

Well you've already got the posi. I'd run drag radial's on the street.
If you are using leaf spring suspension get a set of these

I think the long beds hook better than the shortbeds so go with the caltracs at the least. Since your trans isn't done yet have you considered a trans brake? Is your truck lowered? If so how?

is lowered, upper and lowers 3" and 2.5" springs..flip kit in rear..i have seen the traction bars for flip kit..as far as trans brake,mmm dont know that is getting radical and
gets abusive if used wrong but maybe down the road when i can justify it with more ponies and stouter drivetrain, like 9"

yes i agree...i might depending on how it does with the stall and bars but like agreed a line lock would let me fine tune a launch but the con of that may be leaving some power on the table

it all depends on how you are hooking up now. are there problems? you don't need to fix what isn't broken.

70montecarlo, (I have the same problem)I just got a set of these http://www.competitionengineering.com/catalog/CategoryDisplay.asp?CatCode=13116 for my 81 swb truck and I will let you know how they work....  Does anyone know if these are the right way?....   Hopefully you can help 70montecarlo and i.... (we are running about the same power and truck)

I have really been considering going with the CPP crossmember kit to add the 63-72 trailing arms and coil springs to my 84.  It looks like a nice kit, and there are tons of the older trucks running 9's and 10's on basically stock suspension... Most just add sticky tires, poly bushings, good shocks and maybe an airbag in the right rear spring.  They ride very nice also, compared to our leaf springs.
