distributor points eliminator kit
« on: September 06, 2007, 09:57:14 PM »
I have a 73 C10 shortbed.  Actually it was a 3/4 ton long bed that was shortened and turned into a shortbed.  It has the original 454 in it.  I want to put a point eliminator kit in the distributor.  Has anyone ever used one of these, and if so which is a good one.  Are they hard to put in?

Just buy and HEI from a 75-80's (or higher, but non ESC) vehicle (maybe $50 at the salvage yard) and eliminate the points completely.

the pertronix kit is very nice but for the same price you could get a used HEI (high energy ignition) distributor. the HEI units are nice because they deliver the 30,000+ volts needed to make your engine run well without buying the accel HO coils everyone wastes money on.

truck is gone but not forgotten, worst thing I ever did was sell this truck and I regret it everyday.

You can get used working HEI's from the junkyard for about $30. (or at least here you can)
