I have a '81 C10 shortbed with a H code 305. I need to replace my fuel sender but can't find anywhere whether it's a 2 outlet or 3. I'd like to buy the new sender before I drop the tank and render my truck undriveable until a new sender arrives. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

All you have to do is look. You can see it behind the cab.

You can get the three outlet one and just cap it off with hose with a bolt in it or a rubber Vacuum end cap.
There is the send/pickup tube a return line and a vapor/emissions line. Depending on where you buy it the two outlet sender may be more expensive! The vapor/emissions tube is very short ends just inside the tank.

I have an 81 K10 with duel 16 gal tanks and have 3 hose connections on the fuel sending units. Supply, return, and vent!

Thanks. It sounds like if I go with the 3 outlet I'm safe, because as you say, I can plug it if I have to. If I get a 2 outlet and need a 3 then I'm sunk.

WOW! How many fuel lines connect to the fuel pump?

Three hose connections on the tanks fuel sending unit (I should not have said three outlets - corrected), there is only one fuel supply (outlet), a return, and a vent (outlet) needed. I would imagine you have two hose connections on the fuel pump (a supply and a return coming from the selector valve) and a threaded connection where a line connects that goes to the carburetor if it is like my 81 K10. I attached a pic of my fuel tank selector valve, a little dirty (the pic is prior to my rebuild and is OEM). Wish the same Selector valve could still be found, new selector valves are shorter in length and have a little different design.
