AWD Transfer Case

What tranfer case does a Silverado SS come with. Also, which one does a Trailblazer SS come with.   Eventually, I'm going to replace my NP203 tranfer case with an AWD one that will handle lots of power because I'm going to be putting in a high power big block engine. The truck will only be driven on the street.

Why would you want either of those?  Why not just use an np205?

Ditto..why would you want to swap to a late model, low strength, pushbutton 4wd tcase which would involve tons of complicated wiring that even I wouldn't want to dream of tackling from scratch, when an np205 is more or less a bolt-in swap..?

When the Silverado SS was AWD (2005-up) it used the NVG149. The TrailBlazer has an optional AWD NVG120.  They are not pushbutton t-cases, they are AWD all the time, and have been used behing the high torque (400lb/ft) motors like the LQ4.  BTW, the GMC C3 is still AWD.

A friend of mine has an '04 silverado SS AWD 6.0l and has had the transfer case replaced under warranty once and out of pocket once. First time somthing came loose inside and put a hole through the case, don't know what the 2nd time was. I was pretty sure it was pushbutton, but I only rode in it once.

NP205 seems very strong but I need a one speed AWD transfer case.   I think it would have to have clutches like an Eaton Posi.    Also, it's got to be super strong to hold over 700 hp.

BBC w/forced induction.   Should be well over 700 hp to the ground.    Not sure if the Eaton Posi I just got in the rear will hold up.   Might have to get something stronger.

Why do you want it to be an all-wheel drive?  Why not just a 2wd?

Silverado SS trucks were like the Olds Bravada, Syclone/Typhoon and Astro vans with a viscous transfercase.  There were no pushbutton.

The main difference between all wheel drive and 4 wheels drive is the drivers ability to choose to disengage the 4wd. Going all wheel drive isn't really all wheel drive especially if it's a t-case utilizing a viscous coupling. So I think what Nova was trying to say is why not just shift into 4WD when you want for wheel drive? By having an AWD Tcase you are just basically eliminating the shift lever.

If you want the best traction and your truck is a 4x4 put it in 4wd and install a posi in both axles. It may make your steering a little crazy and harder in the front but if you truly want AWD that's the only way you're gonna get it.

If you want the truck to be the fastest possible, ditch the T-case altogether.  Yes AWD is great out of the hole, and they handle wonderfully, but they don't make it fast.  MANY Sy/Ty owners that are after speed ditch the whole transfercase/front diff.
