6.2's
« on: June 25, 2009, 01:48:20 AM »
Ok all who is running a 6.2 in their ride? What do you like or dislike about it. What mods have you made or want to make?  Mine is pretty much stock, turned the pump up a bit. I would like 2 add a turbo and i need 2 drop in some lower gears. 3.08's dont work well with 35's. Likes- mpg and blowin smoke! Dislikes- not alot of power and sounds like its always about ready to come apart!

I have a stock 6.2 in my 1976 CC 2wd. I love it. I put it in years ago, and the fuel savings paid for the engine in the first year. Very dependable, and always starts easily. Extremely simple to troubleshoot and work on too.
Down side to this truck is the 4 speed manual behind the engine. Way too much gap between gears. I have a 1982 4wd CC that will be my next 6.2 project. Turbo and 400 auto with 4.10 gears are a very good combination for this engine.

I have a 6.2L that I am putting in this truck documented here:

It will have a 700R4, and the CUCV donor 6.2L along with the Sidewinder setup I just purchased.
I don't have likes dislikes yet, but I will like the gas mileage when I am done.

"diesel" mileage should be alright ;D I don't think gas will do too well.

I have a military blazer and love to drive the 6.2.  I actually like to listen to it run.  It's been consistantly getting 20 mpg with a three speed 400 and 308's .  The downside is lack of power.  I have heard bad things from turning up the pump with pistons mealting.  I hear it's a fine line between meltdown and black smoke.  Like I say, what I read, not a fact.  I have been keeping my eye out for a doner 6.5 and turbo but not seriously looking.

You do have to b careful turning up the pump on these. I dont recomend it without a pyrometer. Ive been lookin 4 a turbo for mine also or thinkin of a custom turbo setup. They cant handle alot of boost without problems. FUEL MILAGE is great with these things.

I have an 88 Crew Cab  and it is all stock with a TH400 and 4.10 gears.  I have only ran through 2 tanks of fuel and have gotten 22 mpg consistently so I LOVE the "fuel mileage."  I have only had it a few months and have not had time to dive into it yet.  It only has 165k original miles on it.  The truck sat for over a year without running so first thing will be a complete fluid and filter replacement.  I would like to turbo it, but that will come with time.  I love the sound it makes.  Dislike the slow acceleration.  I am sure I will find more likes and dislikes the longer I own it.
