Potential newb
« on: April 05, 2019, 04:12:11 PM »
So have the chance to trade a 250cc buggy for a 1981 Chevy Dually.  It has a 454 and the owner says he put in a new fuel pump, edelbrock 650cfm carb and Holley valve covers with new dual exhaust, flowmaster.  ill try attaching pics, any info on what to search for to learn more about this truck would be great.  I have looked some and it seems to me that it would be called a C30 crew cab dually 3+3.
He says will need new tires, so I know I will have that cost. ok I need to figure out the pics, ill post this then get the pics.

Kinda what I was thinking, so am I on the right track to call it a C30 3+3?  Is it called a 3500?  And how will I know what trans it has, any tells to look for?  Iv searched and seen that the 400 is what I'm assuming it has.

generally chevys are c/k30 while GMCs are c/k3500 the c is for 2wd ("R" in 1987-1991) and K for 4x4 ("V" in 1987-1991) but thats just for those that want to be technical kind of like a grammar nazi. "3+3" is a crew cab (and gm put 3+3 badges on the sides of some cabs) 3 people up front 3 in the back, theres also an "bonus cab" which has no rear seat and is for just the extra cab room for whatever. the 3+3 is also known as a 6 pack.

the th400 is an automatic, the sm465 is a manual.

Thanks for the welcomes and info! Sooo...Well... its mine!  I don't know if its for good  ;D or bad :(, but I brought it home.  It started good, ran good, and sounded good.  Shifted through all gears. Ill be posting in the members rides section I'm sure (when I get pics sized/formatted correctly).  It does have some rust, more than i wanted, with one REAL bad spot.  It will be fun searching and learning.  I'm going to be needing all kinds of parts and info.
On that what all other forums are good to check out for info?

the last question will evoke silence as most believe that this site is the one and only-the others being imposters...  ;)

Welcome from SoCal,

Nice find, I owned the 1973 version of that truck, wonderful machine, will pull or carry most anything you throw at her.

This site also has a 'Store' for many parts, if you haven't noticed yet.

Give her a bath inside and out and post pics!

the issue with other sites is the information you may or may not recieve. i havnt found another site thats just dedicated to our truck. im also a member/mod on https://chevroletforum.com/. it seams like a good place, but it covers all chevy vehicles so you dont have the dedication that we do. take our tech section we have information there that only we have or have gotten (i had to ask for permission on something due to copyrights) and with the our site not being real big we can monitor the information we/others give out and correct it if needed
