700r4 to TH350
« on: November 17, 2006, 07:37:00 AM »
Is the flexplate required for both of these trannys the same
on my 283 sbc? I'm having problems with the 700 and am swapping in a 350 till I get a chance to open up the 700 and do it right.

Thanks,Pugsy

That's a good question, especially since a 283 is not a stock truck engine.   but, I guess a small block chevy is a small block chevy--it should'nt matter.

NOw, for the flexplate being the same b/w the two tranny types, i would check on www.partsamerica.com or similar site and see if the flex plate numbers are the same on a th350 vs. 700r4.  I don't know what year the tranny changed in the trucks, may have to enter a few different truck years.   Enter the year of a truck w/ that tranny (700r4) and enter a year around 78 (for the th350)---see if it comes back w/ the same number flexplate.

You have to ensure your starter matches the flexplate if it is different (ie: 168 tooth)etc....

There are two types of flywheels the 153 which is the small one and takes the starter that has the bolt pattern that they are straight across. The other is 168 which is bigger and it takes the starter with the bolts that are diagonal pattern. Doesnt matter which one you use aslong as the torque converter bolt holes line up but you have to have the starter that matches the flywheel.
