My 1974 GMC 1/2 Ton
« on: September 05, 2015, 09:32:57 PM »
Figured I'd post some pics of the truck I recently acquired. It came from the factory with a 454 and Turbo 400.  Hoping to restore it to its former self, it had been sitting for a number of years.

Thanks!

Engine is at machine shop right now. I was surprised to see a nice valve job done on it before, had 7/16" pushrods, roller rockers, etc.

I have put together some nice parts for the build:
Scat 489 forged rotating assembly with mahle flat top Pistons
Lunati hydraulic roller cam, lifters, rockets, springs, etc

I will be swapping in a 4L80e as well, and hopefully a rebuilt rear end with a posi.

Sounds like it'll be a fast, fun, and strong machine! Those are all good components.

I was super surprised it had the original grill and not a single broken plastic anywhere on it. Gotta clean it up, but it's in good shape.

More progress! Hope to have her roadworthy in a couple weeks when I have time. Decided to add a trans cooler but did t have much room to fit it anywhere else. Going to route it through the radiator first and its there for my piece of mind.

Well we got her started.  Put a flow master exhaust on. Did a test drive and tranny was shifting but I was getting speed sensor codes from the tcu. Also it seems to be running warm so going to get the radiator a once over. Also very disappointed my brand new pro billet msd distributor was bad out of the box. Have to wait to get a replacement and have an old cheapie in there now. Overheating could be timing too.
