Cross sill hitting lower shackles on stepside with 4" drop
« on: February 15, 2018, 09:21:51 PM »
I have a 74 c10 stepside with a hanger and shackle kit that gave me a 4" drop in the rear. Upon sitting the cross sills in their position to bolt the bed to frame I notice the cross sill closest to the tail gate sits dead on the rear shackles. I never heard of this before now. Is this common? I don't want to ruin my new wooden floor. I still want my 4" drop because I have 4" in front and I have a nice rake look. Hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks

Stock shackles or lowering shackles?

You can shim the bed up a little higher too. Lot's of guys used to do this with the stepsides back in the day.

I had the same issues with mine. I just cut enough space around the cross for my shackle to fit. It shouldn’t ruin your floor. It all under the bed

I'll give that a try. I don't want to ruin my ash wood lol. I never ever heard of this before. Is it common to run into this issue on swb stepsides or fleetsides?

Sorry for the late response
I just hit it with a sawzall before buttoning it all back up. It’s not pretty but it works

Wow! Is that with a 2 or 4 in drop? Remember I have lowering hangers that gave me 2in to begin. The 2in came from the shackles. I like what you did. Nice

So you just cut cut and smoothes out the brace instead of notching it I like that!!  2 or 4" drop here?
