77/78 Steering Column Wiring (SOLVED)
« on: April 04, 2018, 02:22:07 PM »
(TURNS OUT IT WAS JUST MY OLD COLUMN WITH DIFFERENT COLORED WIRES. THE NEW COLUMN + THE TRUCK WIRING MATCHED I GUESS MY "OLD" COLUMN WAS NOT ORIGINAL)
I just replaced the tilt steering column on my 1978 Silverado with a tilt column from a 1977 Chevy (mine was an early year 78 so, it still had the splined shaft). Everything fits, and bolts up properly...but, the wiring is different. The connectors are the same, but the wire colors are different (referring to turn signals, hazards, horn, etc...)  Both columns are cruise columns and have a separate 2 conductor wire for the cruise part...just talking about the long/wide plug in on the side of the column

I'm not sure if this is a situation where it just happens to be different colored wires and I can plug it in and go, or if I need to cut and splice some wires.

As far as I know my truck was an original tilt column...it's possible the column I removed was not original since I've only owned the truck for about 20 years.

Anyone have any experience with this?
