79 Chevy K20
« on: December 12, 2008, 11:58:40 PM »
This Pic i was stuck because my 4x4 was only 4x2 the rear was hung up on a rut that my 38 swampers couldn't touch having a problem with keeping the front driveshaft bolted in keeps vibrating the bolts out and then snapping the last one. I'm thinking tread locker low strength but anyone else got any ideals. oh yeah the hood was off due to an engine swap

The bolts to the yoke?  Are you using lock washers?

Looks great. Does it rub in the front while wheeling and turning? Is your gas door on the other side or did you shave that too?

Make sure that the yoke caps are aligned on both ends, sometimes when a shaft is extended due to a lift the ends are out of sync and will cause enough vibration to loosen the bolts. Lock washers and locktite is always good.

Great photo!  Did you have the front driveshaft lengthened?

the bed is off a newer pick up like mid 80's the door is on the other side tho.
the tires don't even come close to rubbing, the shaft shouldn't have to be extended in less the lift is over 6 in the suspension if I'm not mistaken.

Look at the shaft and see if the center yoke is hitting the stops on the inside of the CV. If it is then you have to change the angle of the shaft

Make sure there is enough travel in the slip yoke, yes use loctite, and make sure your u-joints fit correctly.

I was told that I needed to not only have my front shaft lengthened on the truck, but also add a cv joints to the opposite end of the double joint. I have an inlaw that works for a drivetrain company so I was going to get them to lengthen the rear shaft as well.
