Title: 1984 c10 sagging tailgate
Post by: 88rxna on April 18, 2020, 09:35:48 PM
1984 c10 passenger side tailgate sits at least an inch lower than the driver side..
i have tried to adjust the hinge and latch as much and possible and this really didn't do anything to help..
im wondering what else i can do/ rebuild for the tailgate? i know for sure its the tailgate and not just the bed that's sagging.
any help is appreciate!

I cant imagine how the tailgate can sag an inch on one side and still have clearance to close. Unless the bed sides arent level

Take some pics.

Is anything bent?

There are 3 different hinge designs that bolt to the bedside. Was it ever right or did it just start sagging? If you have the period correct gate, it sounds like you should get a new set of hinges. They bolt on to the gate and the bedside for your truck so replace them as a set.

I bought it last summer like this. I am not too sure if its the correct year or even the original gate for the truck.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200419/850cda64b87577f9deb415b86656ff79.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200419/ce17fb5db1e92dd743f730a1219a622d.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200419/6fc1b17caab3a5048ed04b41ef54ab91.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200419/0642e7bebf59557d5e27e38b2b8d179a.jpg)

Take the gate off and inspect the hinges and trunnions. If they look okay, try adjusting the passenger side hinge upwards.

I believe it is your passenger side tailgate trunnion, your latch (lock) appears to be rubbing low on the hole. Trunnion problem could be on the tailgate or the bed. Noticed the gap on the left and none on the right from it leaning. The tailgate supports are probably keeping the tailgate aligned just enough for the tailgate to close.

If it's that far off the mark, someone probably put the wrong year hinge on.
