Nice work.  If I had half the ambition and drive you've got, I'd have pretty nice truck by now.

Nice work.  If I had half the ambition and drive you've got, I'd have pretty nice truck by now.
i never had the drive before i got the shop, i dont know how some guys do it, like one guy on here who did his hole truck outside not even covered. i know i did engine swaps and trannys in the snow but not bags

anywho here is the 3 hours i got today:

got the bender up

and the frame almost done (crossmembers)

c-notch its so big but everything came out to perfect specs.
like my brother said about the cage in his truck, the worst weld is always the one you see the most, the two on the top of the notch look like i did it with my eyes closed (flux in a way made it seem that way) but the rest came out mint

headers are too low that means =lengths are a plan, i watched "king of the hammers" tonight which is a rock crawling race threw the desert and got a few invisions of my headers

as for the question about my cab previously mentioned, nothing is wrong, my brothers k30 is back there and hes making that into a rock crawler, 350 done up, 465/203/205 doubler with a 14ff and d60 up front, full ARB and 4 link rear soon, hes making the tranny crossmembers now (thats why the bender was put up tonight)
here are a few pics of that

oh yeah and i picked up a 454 on saturday, its a marine mercruiser, 420hp forged low, 30 over, hi-per gm heads, gm alum intake, 850cfm holly  and roller rockers for $500 bucks... but thats going in my next project (rat rod)

should work on it saturday night so ill update sometime sunday on my progress

got my third member in last week

made some frame gussets

welded the gussets in, i decided to punch a 7/8 hole on each side so i could fill it with weld insuring optimum strength

i started plating where i attached the frame, i cut it down to size in a triangle, then boxed it and double plated it, since its the most stressed part and the box frame is half the hight, probably holding 3/4 of the origional lateral force

i made a crossmember that sits right in front of the rear bed mounts, its also going to be part of my trailer hitch (yes it will haul a boat)

frame is finished other than the body mounts which i got them all made up, and the front two are on just i didnt get pictures, i need to invest into a digital camera some day:
it took 22 tons to punch tha 2" hole at work, heck of a dang bang

This is the coolest thread on here that I found so far.  I hope my kids turn out as smart as you about trucks.

thanks guys, in reality ive never done this before, nor do i really know what im doing, im kinda just making sense out of stuff and taking thousands of measurements, and asking the right people some questions. its the most fun i have ever had other than racing motocross.
as for my motivation, my father (engineer) came down to my shop thursday and told me "how do you know that goes there?" "i cant believe youve done this, its too much your in over your head.. kinda put that inmy head as motivation to show people that some kids out there can do this stuff, and there are still hot rodders out there in my generation, though very few, my next project is a 34 tudor, just gotta find one

oh yea, and i got an idea about my steering, looks like my moms 69 camaro sterring box is very similar to mine, just the mounts are backwards, but is 2 turns lock to lock, where as mine is,
also looking into doing sway bars front and rear, i can mod a stock front, but i need to find one that will fit my rear
