NV 3500 in K-10 ?
« on: May 25, 2014, 05:33:55 PM »
We have a late 70s K-10 with a 350, SM-465 ,NP-205

The plan is to
Make it a daily driver

We'd like to keep it a manual trans
I had a T-18 in my 74 Bronco and swapped in a NV-3550 from a '01 Wrangler

It's a great trans

I've read that some of the late 80s - early 90s trucks had a NV 3500

What T-case did they come with?
And will it easily swap into a K-10 ?

Here is where you will find the NV 3500.

Applications
1988–1998 Chevrolet & GMC CK with 4.3 liter V6 and 5.0 liter V8 and 5.7 liter V8
1999–2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2500LD
1999–2006 GMC Sierra 1500 and 2500LD
1993–2003 GM S (S10 etc.) trucks with 4.3 liter V6
1994–2001 Dodge Ram 1500 [4]
1994–1995 Dodge Ram 2500 Light Duty
1994-2004 Dodge Dakota
2000-2001 Jeep Cherokee with 4.0L/AMC 242 I6: NV3550 [5]
2000-2004 Jeep Wrangler TJ & LJ with 4.0L/AMC 242 I6: NV3550 [6]
Dodge Ram order code DDC

General Motors RPO codes[1]
Full-size CK, Silverado, Sierra MG5
Small trucks S10 etc. M50

for the history see the NV 3500 see Wikipedia, great site for the history and applications of all kinds of things.  I do believe that they were all electronic shift for the Chevy's for those years, I could be wrong, but everything I read reads electronic shift for Chevy's.

I could not find any listing of specific models behind the 3500.  But following is what I could find.
GM 246 1998-2007 There are several different versions for those years.  There was also the GM 261 HD, GM 263 HD, GM 263 XHD.
After 87 GM switched so many times it is hard to keep up, it seemed they were switching transfer cases between 1500 - 2500 - & 3500 models, none of these had the same transfer case.
The NV4500 was introduced in 1993, so not sure how long the NV3500 was around after that.
I did find 1 source that had some what of a listing.

     GMC / CHEVY TRANSFER CASE
1969-1991                                     GMC, Chevrolet with NP 205
1981-1988     K & V 10,20,25         GMC, Chevrolet with NP 208
1989-1991                                     GMC, Chevrolet with BW 1370
1989-1995      K3500                     GMC, Chevrolet with BW 4470
1991-1995      K30-R05                  GMC, Chevrolet with BW 4401
1988-1996      K15/35                    GMC, Chevrolet with NP 241
1996-1997      Blazer, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban
                                                      GMC, Chevrolet with NP 243

The source I got that from is Ventures Truck Parts.

I was mostly wanting to know if a 3500 would bolt up to my existing NP205
