Axle length?
« on: April 25, 2017, 02:17:03 PM »
What is the correct axle length for a 1984 C10 2wd with the 8.5" 10 bolt?

I am trying to rebuild the rear and I keep getting an axle measurement of 31.5" but all the axle companies (Yukon, Moser, Dutchman) list my truck as having either a 31 5/16" or 31 3/8". If I go with either of those lengths I don't think I'll be able to get my C clips back in.

Either should be fine. Where are you getting them?

In all technicality all it being off by a small amount would do is effect where the drum rides on the pads. So it would fit fine it just may cause the breaks to not be perfectly lined up.

Btw without looking at one closer I really don't know how big of a deal that would be

A little longer would have less issues than a little shorter. Even 3/8 shorter could put the drum into the backing plate.
How you measure from WMS to end of axle on a C clip style?

I will be running a disc brake setup in the rear. Not drum brakes.

I measured from the front of the flange to the end of the shaft, just like in your second picture.

First pic would be like your 10 bolt C clip semi floater. Will measure longer than the 2nd pic of a non C clip style full floater.
