Hub Centric Rings

Well, there's no more shops I can find around here that can balance my wheels on my C20.  They are lug centric, and the 3 shops that used to have the adapter plate for balancing have thrown them away.

I want to try some hub centric rings to see if that will work.  I don't wanna buy more wheels, but I do need tires and I've got a set of KO2s for it, but nobody can balance them, so I haven't put them on yet.

I have the center bore of the wheel, it's 130.81mm.

What I need to know is the hub size on the truck so i can find rings or have some made.  It's a 78 C20 14 bolt FF.

I'm not sure why you can't find a place that can balance your tire and wheel. It's the most common service done at any shop. Use the Hunter locater to find a shop nearby with a road force balancer. https://www.hunter.com/about-hunter/locations

If they use the center hole it shakes.  if they use the lug centric plate it doesn't.  I don't know of any places that have the hunter balancing setup.   some used to but now they don't.

They've all gotten rid of the adapter plates. 

Took about a year to get this balanced correctly after trying several different places back when I first got them6 or 7 years ago.  after they used the plate on them they've been smooth since.  I've tried it at 5 different places using the center hole, but its rough over 35mph that way.

I haven't had the tires balanced in 2 or 3 years, not too many miles in that time.  but now they're worn enough to replace and it seems i'm screwed.  with 10 ply tires and 9 leafs in the rear they've got to be smooth or the truck isn't driveable.

Just had a thought.  can't use rings anyway because of how the center cap pushes through the back and would throw it off.

If the center of your wheel and the bolt circle is off then you need to replace the wheel. They should always be balanced using the centering cone.

Road force balancing is more expensive because you have to match mount and then rebalance, so you pay more in labor but it is the best way to balance tires.

You nailed it Vile!   I got a hunter balance and it worked.   I think I got a good shop this time, as I tried hunter before and it was still lumpy.   They did a hunter on my new tires and it rides smooth.

I just wanted to let you know, you were right on.  screw the hub size  ;)

I cannot tell you how many times I had customer complaints that were remedied by a rebalance despite "Just having them balanced" at anther shop. All it takes is one mistake in setup on the machine and here comes the shakes. Glad to hear you got it resolved

I had tried several places.  Thank you for bringing this back up.

Matter of fact, to speak to weird things happening at shops...  The shop I used, I told them I came in specifically to have aa hunter done on it, but i was watching them outside and they didn't do it, i asked them why he was regular balancing them, and they said one of the managers told them specifically not to hunter it.  I told the manager and they fixed the issue, and I watched them do it correctly. 

Lesson:  If you have anything done to your vehicle that's out of the odrinary, WATCH THEM DO IT.  not because they're dishonest and trying to screw you nessecarily, Give benefit of the doubt.  but when people want things that aren't cookie-cutter, it throws shops off.

Thanks again VILE.  I was seriously considering different wheels, which wouldn't have fixed the problem of the shops.
