probably two piece cuz of the M40 tranny, or because of the 454. one or the other, anyways.
just sounds like a more deluze truck is all, with biggest drivetrain as fas as engien and tranny go.

3.08 is not surprising with 454, rear axle always got higher ratios with bigger engines, its always been like that,.

in the 68-72 yars the 396/402(400 by GM specs) would get 3.07 12 bolt gears and sometimes 3.54 dana 60 if was with np435 tranny, there were other tranny options that could get you 3.54\, kinda different each year, really, would take digging through these data sheet pages to list it all out,,

good luck

I have never heard of a 1/2 ton with a factory installed 454 in these years?!?!  What year is it???  They mad a 454 SS in the newer body style, but I am not aware of one from 73-87.

Of course they did. The 454 was available every year.

My 74 GMC 1500 has the original matching #'s 454 BB in it. I have removed the engine, built it and reinstalled it, and you can look at the #'s behind the Alt on the block and the #'s on the frame by the steering gear box are identical. Many trucks came with the 454

Did some looking and you are right VileZambonie.  (I really hate admitting that).  In 1974, a 454 was an option in the C10 model, but not the K10.  (In fact it was not offered in any 4WD)  It had 230 HP @ 4000 RPM and 350 FT/LB @ 2800 RPM.

A 454 was offered as an option in a C10 from 74 through '79.  I don't have any info on '73, but I am guessing you could get a 454 in '73 also.

in 73 the 454 was offered in C10 pickups......i know a guy who has one. for some reason even the diesel pickups have the 2 piece drive shaft which i think is a piece of @#%$. i changed my long bed over to a diesel shortbed frame and it had a 2 piece shaft. i believe in 70-72 the fender said 400 for the 402 big block. well thats cool man you have a factory Big Block truck with the options =0)
