Which direction to go for my engine?
« on: September 21, 2014, 04:51:29 PM »
Hi everyone, currently I have a 350 in my 82' C10. The engine runs strong but is starting to leak and needs all the gaskets changed. While it's apart I'm going to beef it up somewhat and have a decent street/strip engine. I was thinking 355 or buy a 400 block, since the 383's are extremely common here in my town and I want to be a bit different and still have something I can take pride in and say " I built that!". I'm looking for 450 hp and still have decent street-ability. Thanks!

450 HP in a pickup is just going to spin the tires

No weight in the back= no traction with that HP

You have a point... well at least 400hp/400lb. This isn't my daily driver, so it'll mostly be out on nice days and hopefully the local drag strip on Friday nights.

You may have noticed that you haven't gotten a lot of replies and that is because most of us have walked so many through this it would blow your mind. My recommendation is to search both 383 and 400 builds on this site and try to decide which seems to fit your goals and most important budget. After that if you need troubleshooting and or just a Little guidance hit us up. Good luck reading b/c there are a ton of these questions and builds here. Most of all enjoy the build.

Its cool. You're not the first and definitely won't be the last. You will notice there's a lot of help when you get to that point just understand that to get the power you want you will need displacement is 400ci or more  ;D... Its possible with a 350/383 but you will be lookin at a lot of parts a sacrifices to get that power from less displacement.
