Title: Drop spindels or Control arms?
Post by: ceison87 on May 01, 2004, 10:28:00 PM
Have an 87 c10 longbed get ready to scrape the pavement on bags. was planning on using djm drop spindles. but I was wondering what the advantages of contol arms were over spindles or even if they are better, or possible if I should use both on bags?

You cannot use spindles and dropped control arm together without violating the scrub line.  If you get a flat, all the components will be below the rim when a flat occurs.
I am running control arms on my project truck, and I will be putting spindles on my Jimmy.  Some spindles require trimming to clear a 15" rim.  "technically" spindles don't change the suspension feel if you just used them together.  It does push the wheels out though.  Control arms have a lowered pocket for the spring.  It will affect the suspension.

if you run the Bell Tech 3" spindles, Warning with a 8" rim....they will rub on the lower control arm. I suggest either running a narrower rim in the front with a small back spacing or running a taller rim. You might have to shave some material near lower ball joint area for a 8" rim to clear. too bad Bell Tech never tells you this.......:b

Well I was thinking of 18"x8" rims would this be tall enough to work with the spindels?

Yes, anything over 16" should clear.
