Replacing t-case
« on: January 31, 2002, 08:50:00 PM »
I was on the road in this beautiful Michigan weather this morning, just putzin along minding my own business, when i heard a not so good sounding clunk from under the truck which,i found out after pulling over, was the sound of a t-case disentegrating.I don't mean cracking,I mean completely shattering. Now I know why people always like the cast 203's and 205's instead of the aluminum 208's.My question is.......I already have a 203 out of a 77 and a 205 out of an 80 (i think),would it be easier to just get another 208 or how hard would it be to put one of the other cases in?
I'd kinda rather put a cast case in after having this happen. The 205 was behind a turbo 350 and i don't know what tranny was in front of the 203,will i have to get an adaptor to put it with my creeper 4sp?i know i'll have to switch out the hubs.I thought 205's used locking hubs, but mines got auto hubs with it?i know i'm probly forgetting to ask something but if you guys could help i'd appreciate it.

Go with the 205.  They were used in 1 tons every time, and some 3/4 and 1/2 tons.  They are part time, and should have lock in hubs on the accompanying axle.
