Title: What can I use to measure RPMs?
Post by: txtj79 on March 13, 2009, 10:49:21 PM
I need to find a tachometer that I can use when working under the hood.  Can I just buy a regular dash mount and just use it under the hood?  Any suggestions?

Most decent advance timing lights have a tachometer display. Many multimeters also have an RPM  probe.

yes, you can use a normal tach and put her under the hood to use as reference.  All you need is the green wire for the distributor, and the black for ground.  The wire for the headlight switch won't necessarily be needed for use for working under da hood, but, yes, use it.

HMMMMMM ;D
Nice idea.  I do believe your problem is a nice modification.  Install a tack in the engine compartment.

Thank you.

Get a SunPro SuperTach II.  I just bought one from AutoZone for $29. Plus they look cool strapped to the column once you're done under the hood.

SuperTach is Super-Easy to install! Takes 5 minutes.

You might find an old dwell/tach meter.  that's what I have for that.  I hook it up and set it on the cowl while I'm working.  I like needle guages better then digital for stuff like that but that's just my preference.
