87 350 tbi a/c drive belt
« on: February 08, 2018, 09:01:06 PM »
Last spring I put a new a/c belt on . It slips and squeals like heck when I turn
Air on. Belt is tight. Might be too narrow. Not sure, but might be 3/8".                                      Want to know what is the best belt To buy and dimensions including width? Or pt # ?

Is your AC compressor in good working order?  When the AC is switched off, the belt idles on the compressor pulley.  When the switch is turned on, the compressor clutch engages the compressor pulley to the compressor internals.  If the compressor is seizing, when you switch the AC on, the belt will be pulled around a pulley that cannot rotate.  This will not last long, as it will burn the belt off. I would begin by checking the compressor.

The clutch works good . A/c comp is good. Used some special belt dressing and squealing stopped for a week. Am sure I have too narrow belt. Will try belts as suggested by B D. Thanks anyway.

Just cross the numbers to Dayco or Gates.
